- SYMPTOMS may include loss of sensation, small nodules (solid swellings),
- loss of hair, fever, brown or pink patches on the skin or open sores on skin
- CAUSES are from a bacillus called Mycobacterium lepra that is believed to be
- transmitted by discharge of the sores from persons already affected with it.
- Thought to be very contagious, it is actually one of the least contagious
- diseases (about 1 in 20 of those exposed to it).
- TREATMENT. Dapsone and maybe an antibiotic may be prescribed.
